Web Hosting FAQs
How do I upload my website to the internet?
There are a few ways to do this, it really just depends on your
preference.
1. File Manager: Once you have logged into the Website Management
area (Control Panel), (you can do this by going to: http://www.yourdomain.co.nz:2082
and entering you username and password) click on the icon called
"File Manager". This will pop up a second window which
lists the directory structure as well as file management options.
Click on the Public_HTML folder icon on the left hand side of the
screen, this will display all files/directories in the HTML root
folder. The Public_HTML folder is where you need to put all your
html files which you want the general public to be able to view
(ie your website). You can upload files to the HTML directory or
subdirectory by clicking on the "Upload Files" icon. This
will display another window where
you can select which files to upload. Once you click Upload, the
files will be uploaded to the current directory.
2. FTP: You can set up an FTP link to the site by typing into
your
Internet Explorer Address path: ftp://username@yourdomain.co.nz
- this will pop-up a window prompting you to enter your password.
Once the password has been accepted you can then browse like you
would in Windows. Just double click on the Public_HTML directory
then drag and drop (or cut and paste) all the html files of the
site into the window.
You can also use other FTP programs to upload your website, we
recommend CuteFTP as a good alternative to Internet Explorer.
3. Frontpage: If you are developing the site in Frontpage, you
can
publish the frontpage website directly to the server, you can do
this by entering the FTP details into the Frontpage settings.
4. Dreamweaver: You need to read the dreamweaver documentation
as some dreamweaver versions can use slightly differing methods
for uploading your site.
Of all the above options, we would recommend either the FTP or
File Manager
option. Once you have uploaded the site into the WWW root directory,
just
ensure that there is a page called index.htm or index.html - this
page
will be the one that is the default page for the site. (or change
the index page settings within the Control Panel)
I am running out of space on my hosting account! What can
I do?
There are a couple of way to get around this problem.
1. Carefully, and we stress the word CAREFULLY, look through your
website files using your File Manager or FTP program, and check
to see if there are any files and directories that you do not use.
If there are some files/directories that you know you do not use
– AND – you know what the directories are, then you
can delete the directories/files, which will free up some space.
However, if you DON’T know what the directories do, then DO
NOT delete them, otherwise you may end up deleting system files
which are required to make your website work!! If you are not certain
if you need a directory or not, then please contact us first!
2. Delete any emails from your webmail account that you no longer
need. Sometimes there are literally hundreds of emails sitting in
your webmail account using up great amounts of space!
3. Upgrade your hosting account. Hosting accounts often become to
small for what you are doing, you can upgrade your accounts from
as little as $10 per month, which depending on the current offer,
can normally double the amount of space available.
4. Purchase additional space from us. It is possible to purchase
units of 5MB from us for your account, you can do this at a rate
of $2.50 per 5MB unit.
What does ‘Traffic’ mean?
Traffic is how much data gets transferred from your website to other
people looking at your website – hence the slang ‘Traffic’.
Each account has a limitation of how much traffic you use.
I am exceeding my traffic allowance! Will my account be
disabled?
NO! Certainly not, our customer’s websites are just as important
to us as they are to you. If you have exceeded your monthly allocated
traffic allowance, we will simply bill you for the additional traffic
that you use for that month. Additional traffic is charged at a
rate of $5.00 per additional 50MB of traffic.
Can I increase my monthly traffic allowance?
Yes, certainly. The best way to increase your monthly traffic allowance
is to upgrade your hosting account, this can be done normally (depending
on the current prices) for about $10 a month. Please contact us
or look at the Hosting section of this website for pricing details.
